Chapel of the Chimes was founded in 1909 in an old streetcar station. In 1928, the structure was expanded and featured designs from prominent architect Julia Morgan, who designed Hearst Castle. It was designed with intention as a place of peace, remembrance and a permanent tribute. Oakland has remembered its families across generations here, in a space that honors life and legacy. Our grounds are more than just a cemetery. Families visit and remember their loved ones in a place surrounded by greenery and peace. We also offer a columbarium and mausoleum for indoor interments.
