Winslow L. Moore's Obituary
Winslow “Win” Laurence Moore, April 16, 1937 – August 14, 2019.
Resident of Lafayette, California.
Winslow L. Moore, known to friends as “Win,” passed away peacefully in his sleep on the morning of August 14, 2019 at the age of 82.
Winslow was born in Los Angeles CA on April 16, 1937 to the late Laurence and Catherine Moore. He attended and graduated from Oakland High School and Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, CA where he earned his degree in Mechanical Engineering. Following his graduation from Cal Poly, Win would proudly serve in the United States Navy and Naval Air reserve for 23 years based out of the Alameda Naval Air Station as a navigator retiring at the rank of Commander in October of 1978.
As a resident of Lafayette for over 55 years where he started his own family, Win began his civilian career with Peterbilt Motors Company in Newark, CA, as an engineer, moving into regional sales management and ultimately to selling both Peterbilt and Kenworth trucks until his retirement.
Win had a fascination with anything mechanical and had a special love for cars. As a teenager, he built his first car from parts he secured from a local wrecking yard. Win’s passion for cars ran deep leading him to form the Knights Auto Club with his best friends while in high school. Win had a fondness for Oldsmobiles and was a member of the Northern California chapter of the Oldsmobile Club and the Oldsmobile Club of America.
Win is survived by his beloved wife Edda Moore, children Larry Moore (Kristin), Anna-Maria Orlando (Phillip) and Frank Barrett, sisters Heather Mull and Kathy Sullivan, grandchildren, Kacey, Devin and Kaylen Moore, Christopher, Robert (predeceased) and Timothy Orlando, and nieces Kelly White (children Ian and Heather Lynne) and Kirsten Core.
Win loved people and will forever be remembered as man of great patience, integrity, loyalty and above all, someone eager for a good laugh. More importantly, he liked making other people laugh too.
Services celebrating Win’s life will be held on Saturday, August 31st from 11:00 am to 12:00 noon at the Willow Spring Church in Moraga, CA and a brief reception will follow Win’s service. A private internment service for family and close friends will follow at the Chapel of the Chimes Mortuary and Crematorium in Oakland at 3:30 pm.
Memorial donations in memory of Win will be appreciated and can be made to the charity of your choice.
