William Clyde “Bill” Sears Bill Sears 2012 Resident of San Leandro William “Bill” Clyde Sears, 75, of San Leandro, passed away peacefully at Kaiser Hospital, Hayward on July 4th, 2012. Bill was born in his grandparent’s home in Oakland, CA October 20, 1936. He graduated from Fremont High School and went on to study at California College of the Arts in Oakland. He later studied theology at Pacific Lutheran College in WA. He was married to Barbara Sears and celebrated their 31st anniversary in April. Bill worked for 35 years at Chapel of the Chimes, Oakland as the grounds gardener. He spent weeks decorating the Chapel of Chimes large display Christmas tree. His floral arrangements were second to none. He loved to discuss religious history and art with all who would engage him and was an avid arm chair traveler. He worshiped at Saint Peters Lutheran church in San Leandro and he also respected the traditions of the Orthodox Church. He spent his relaxation time in Calistoga, Coloma, Fort Ross, Northern Baja, and cruises to Alaska and Mexico. He loved to embellish stories and kept you captivated with his tales. Although Bill and Barbara did not have children together they have extended family and many friends that shared trips and holidays together. Bill is survived by his sister Ruth and her husband Gene Howard in Sonora. Bill’s nephew and niece with their spouses live in Sacramento and Modesto. There are 5 grand nieces and nephews. His wife Barbara has a son in San Leandro and another son with his life partner, girlfriend in Santa Cruz. Bill was embarrassingly proud when his cousin George Kilner used ancestry.com to discover the family history on the Sears side was traced back to the Mayflower. A memorial service will be held at Saint Peter’s Lutheran Church and Parish Hall this month. For details contact [email protected].
