Vincent Hagan Kelly of Colfax, CA –
V. Hagan Kelly, 77 of Sioux City, Iowa, passed away on Monday, February 27, 2017 at a hospital in Alameda, CA.
Memorial service will be at 10:00AM Friday, March 17, 2017 at St. Dominic’s Catholic Church, 58 E Oak St, Colfax, CA 95713.
Vincent Hagan Kelly was born June 1, 1939, in Sioux City, Iowa, the son of John C. Kelly and Dorothy Francis Mary Agnes (Hagan). He grew up in Sioux City, graduated from Bishop Heelan Catholic High School in 1957. He attended St. Mary’s College, Moraga, CA., graduating in 1962.
Upon graduating from St. Mary’s he was accepted into the Navy Officer Candidate School, US Naval Base Newport, Rhode Island. He was commissioned as an Ensign on March 18, 1963. He served aboard the USS Oak Hill (LSD-7) and the USS Zelima (AF-49) in the Vietnam Theatre. Hagan was honorably discharged May 18, 1966 at the rank of Lieutenant.
On November 4, 1967, he married Andrea Lawler of Bayonne, NJ. Together they lived in the San Francisco Bay Area and raised two sons; Edward Crosby Kelly and Padraic Hagan Kelly. He was a sales professional with Procter & Gamble and Blythe, Eastman, Dillon later going into business for himself in outdoor advertising. In 1977 Hagan, Andrea and friends Randy and Monda Wiseman launched the Badge Man. The business evolved into Recognition Experts a promotional product company that he would run over the course of the next 40 years.
In early 2000’s he moved to Placer County, living first in Alta then Colfax. He was active member of St. Dominic’s Catholic Church, volunteering for Parish events and the Knights of Columbus. In recent years he enjoyed spending time with his dear friend Mary Kaye Mintline.
He is survived by his son; Padraic Hagan Kelly his wife Laura and their children, Colin Padraic, Bridget Jane and K. Crosby of Moraga, CA; 6 brothers and sisters, John C. Jr. and his wife Willie, Molly A. Sokolowski and her husband Gary, Timothy B., Dorothy M. (Meg) Evans and her husband Gil, Rory and his wife Pat and Katie L. Colling her husband Ron.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother E. Kevin and son Edward C.
The family wishes to express our gratitude to the staff of Mather VA Hospital, Vitas Hospice, and Mary Kaye Mintline for the care and comfort they extended Hagan in his final days.
