Suk Won Chung's Obituary
Suk Won Chung, age 82, of Piedmont, California ascended to heaven on August 30, 2020.
He was born in Osaka, Japan on July 5, 1938. His family moved back to Korea when he was 6 years old. During the Korean war he and his five other siblings were separated from each other. Although he was separated from his family, he dedicated himself to rebuild his life. He worked and studied furiously as a youth and eventually attended university in Korea. While in college he was an aide to a congressional candidate, he served in the South Korean military as a rifle instructor, and became a police officer after leaving the military.
He married Soon Nam Lee and emigrated to the United States in 1970. After many years of hard work he became an entrepreneur in the grocery, shoe repair, and beauty supply industry. He was the embodiment of the American dream.
He loved his two sons and worked hard to give them all the opportunities available in his new homeland and instill in them the value of "family." He had a passion for opera and was an accomplished tenor. He also enjoyed scuba diving for abalone.
He is survived by his loving wife Soon Nam; his son Winston, daughter in law Hye Jin and their children Joy and Ryan; his son Richard and his wife Tara and their daughter Imaya.
Funeral arrangements will be held at 11:00 AM on September 9, 2020.
