This morning I was very saddened to learn of Steve’s passing from Ed Sayson.
Steve and I had a deep musical connection. We both were exposed to music during childhood in different ways and music became a passion for us both.
My cousin was Irving Berlin and my dad Max Berlin played sax, clarinet and flute for Shep Fields and his Ripplin’ Rhythm Band in the 30’s40’s. Mom played piano. Steve’s dad was in charge of sound production at concerts and brought him along to all his gigs.
We attended many concerts together, knew the names of all the songs played and most of the time the lyrics. Broadway shows were a favorite snd we enjoyed those as well. Steve cared very much about supporting all musicians as well as those on stage and had season tickets to the theater. I’m sorry I didn’t know until now we lost Steve or I would have attended his memorial.
