Robert Julius Christopher's Obituary
Robert Christopher passed away surrounded by family and friends on February 6, 2015 in Oakland California at the age of 97.
Bob is survived by his children, Barbara Kirby and Richard Christopher, Step Daughter, Marlene Beatty, Sister, Audrey Abrahamson, 6 Grandchildren & many Great Grandchildren. Devoted husband to the late Louise Christopher and Olivia Christopher.
Bob was born in Oakland in 1917 and lived all of his life in Oakland. He was a Navy Veteran and a devoted family man. After the war, he continued his career in the Oakland Fired Dept. He started his career with the Fire Dept. as a young hose man. After working the for department for 27 years, he accomplished the rank of Captain of the Firehouse and retired.
Bob was a devoted Christian, husband and family man. Everyone that knew him would say, he was generous, trusting and supportive. He was always there to help a family member or friend in need. In his younger years, he and his wife Louise, took in many family members to help with a place to live and warm meals to eat. Many stayed for months and some for years. He was kind-hearted and would never say no to a family member in need.
Bob had a great enthusiasm for life, and was a very social person. In his earlier years he enjoyed fishing, bowling, square dancing, traveling, and attending baseball games, especially the Oakland A’s. Throughout his life he enjoyed the company of friends and family at dinner parties and social gatherings. His favorite game to play was cribbage, he first learned the game about 75 years ago when he was in the Navy. He was an avid Cribbage player, playing 2 nights per week at different Cribbage Clubs in the area. He enjoyed playing in Cribbage tournaments and won several awards and plaques.
Bob’s zest for life and living it well is a great testimony for everyone that knew him. He knew how to do it, and his memory will live on in all of our lives. God Bless you Dad, we will miss you more than words can say.
The funeral service in on March 7, 2015, at the Chapel of the Chimes in Oakland, at the Julia Morgan Chapel. Viewing open from 10:00 to 12:00, and funeral service is at 1pm. Reception to follow service at 2pm at the same location.
