Richie and his family moved to Weber Street when he was in grade school. As a neighbor, I had the privilege of watching him go through the ups and downs of boyhood. What I most have admired about Ritchie is how he found himself. School was a challenge for him so my husband Bill and I were a bit surprised when he decided that he wanted to go to Cal Maritime Academy. Bill was an instructor there. It was the final and best job for Bill so he was more than willing to talk with Ritchie about the process of applying as well as provide counsel and support along the way. One of our prouder moments was to be present for Ritchie’s graduation. But then came the process of becoming certified. This was an arduous process, especially with his learning disability. He was determined to do it and we wanted to support him. And HE DID IT, on the final try😊
