1928-2017
Resident of Alameda, CA
Ray passed away on Thursday, September 14, 2017 surrounded by his loving children. For the past three years Ray had suffered from complications of prostate cancer. He was fortunate to live in a top notch care home with very specialized and loving care.
Ray was born and raised in Alameda and lived there for 75 years, working for his fathers auto business and eventually raising his own family. There are many many memories of Alameda for Ray. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard on Government Island in Alameda. He eventually moved to Dublin to a new house with his wife Julie where they lived for 10 years. He enjoyed maintaining and keeping his homes in top shape. After selling his home, Ray moved to a retirement community in Pleasanton and then to Brentwood where he passed away.
Ray enjoyed socializing and always made friends everywhere he would go. He spent over 45 years as a Banker and made several lifetime friends along the way. He started out at Crocker Bank which eventually became Wells Fargo where he retired. Ray met his wife Julie while working at Crocker Bank. After retirement he went to work for Bank of Marin to continue doing what he loved along with making friends.
Ray really loved taking annual trips with his wife Julie to Carmel, CA and taking cruises to various places. He and Julie loved going to movies and Broadway Musicals. Back in the day they even bowled on a league together in Alameda. A good part of family time was spent at the family cabin in Lake County, CA with his mother and other family members.
Ray is survived by his children Robert Vallerga currently residing in Mountain House, CA and Jill Bischoff and her husband Sean residing in Brentwood, CA. Ray leaves behind his adored Grandchildren Payton Vallerga and Harrison and Ava Bischoff. Ray was always involved and cared about his grandchildren. Ray also has many adored nieces, nephews and cousins.
A private memorial for immediate family will be held for Ray at Mountain View Cemetery in Oakland, CA as per his wishes.
