Uncle Ray and his first cousin, my mother, Shirley Vallerga Bonbright, were lifelong friends. Listening to them telling stories, laughing, drinking wine or cocktails, playfully sparring is a treasured track of my childhood. Ray would sometimes take me to lunch as a teen, probably prompted by Shirley, to not give me advice. I tried to keep my ears open. He was always the loving, approachable, wise uncle that everyone should have. Rest in peace, Uncle Ray.

A lifetime of joyous memories are flashing through my mind as I remember with great love and fondness, my dear Godfather Ray. Ray and Mom (his cousin, Shirley Vallerga Bonbright) were very close so when I was born, Mom & Dad asked Ray to be my Godfather. He took that role seriously and was a devoted confidant throughout my youth and teen years. He listened respectfully, gave sage advice and loved me unconditionally. It was a special treat to be able to peddle from my home in Ross to the bank where he worked in San Anselmo for regular lunches — just the two of us. He was truly my guardian angel.
