Ralph Anderson
November 14, 1927 – March 8, 2023
Ralph Edward Anderson passed away peacefully in Oakland on March 8, 2023. He was preceded in death by his parents T. Shober and Lillian (Diamond) Anderson, and his brother Donald. Ralph enlisted in the army after graduating from Oakland High School in 1946. He and his high school sweetheart, Joanne Christy, both attended the First Presbyterian Church in downtown Oakland. They married in 1949. After earning a Mechanical Engineering degree from U.C. Berkeley, Ralph worked with his father as a painting contractor and beautified many East Bay homes over six decades. Ralph enjoyed music and played violin in the Prometheus Symphony. Ralph was an avid traveler, skier, hiker, and swimmer as a long-time member of Montclair Swim Club. A faithful Christian, Ralph taught and shared the Bible with grace and simplicity. After 64 years in Montclair, Ralph and Joanne moved to Piedmont Gardens where he was involved in art and music activities. He is survived by his wife Joanne, his children Barclay (Hrafnhildur), Beverly (Bill) Miller, Nancy, and Wesley, eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 13th, 1:00 pm at Chapel of the Chimes, 4499 Piedmont Avenue, Oakland.
