Marjorie N. Barton's Obituary
Marjorie was born August 17th, 1912 on Kodiak Island Alaska.
She was from a large family, the 12th of 13 children. Following the
deaths of her parents, Marjorie, as a young girl of only 12, came to
Seattle, Washington to be near several of her sisters. She graduated
from Franklin High School there and at the age of 22 met her
husband-to-be, Howard Barton. They were married on July 06, 1935
and welcomed their first child, Marjorie Ann (Margie) on March 15, 1937.
The family continued to live in the Seattle area where Mr. Barton was
employed by Safeway Stores, Inc. Their second child, Laurean (Laurie)
was born on August 12, 1945.
As Mr. Barton’s career advanced, the family moved to Salt Lake City, Utah,
Santa Clara, CA and Oakland, CA where Mr. Barton was an executive in
the Safeway Head Office. All the while, Marjorie remained at home as a
devoted wife and mother.
Mr. Barton retired in 1976 and the couple spent the next 16 years traveling
and enjoying life together.
Mr. Barton passed away on July 22, 1992.
Marjorie continued to live in Oakland accompanied by her daughter, Laurie.
Marjorie loved her family greatly. She cherished her husband and would do
just about anything for her daughters. She greatly loved and enjoyed being
with her grandchildren: Marli Erickson, Brett Erickson & Tina Souza (husband
Jeffrey). She was very proud of and loved her only great-grandchild, Jamie
Souza.
Aside from family, Marjorie enjoyed going out to holiday gatherings & special
dinner celebrations at her favorite restaurants. She read the newspaper daily
and watched the evening news so that she was up on all the current happenings.
She enjoyed word-puzzles to keep her mind sharp and took care of her many
orchid & other green plants. She loved flowers and music and had a lovely
singing voice – she would often sing along with two of her favorite artists:
Michael Buble & Rod Stewart and knew the words to all of the old classics.
Marjorie was always young at heart and a beautiful person inside & out.
She was known for her lovely white hair & gentle manner. She never complained
and was accepting and grateful for everything she had.
But the years passed all too quickly and having reached her milestone birthday
of 102 years, Marjorie was ready to move on and join her loved ones, especially
her husband, Howard and daughter, Margie in Heaven.
She passed away peacefully & serenely on August 18, 2014 with her daughter,
Laurie by her side.
She will be greatly missed by so very many.
