Aunt Lue was a kind and generous Aunt. Whenever she visited New Orleans, her greeting was always with a warm, generous and loving smile. My mom (her sister, Audrey Jefferson) always spoke of how hard working and unselfish she was to the family. I don't think she ever met a stranger. I remember going to Grams every Sunday for Sunday dinner. I remember the first time me and my sister Charlotte heard the word Jambalaya. We were told we would be eating it with rice. We laughed so hard when we heard that word. We couldn't imagine what it would taste like based on that name. It turned out to be one of the best dishes I had ever tasted! So when we would go over to Grams, we looked forward to the good meals and the fun of playing with our cousins. Those were some of the best moments in my life. I was so fascinated by her bedroom, filled with jewelry and the French furniture. We were always given nice clothes to wear from her, that she would get from donations from people who donated to the orphanages she worked for. I could go on and on about the awesome gumbo that I had eaten for the first time. One of the many great dishes she and Aunt Joan would fix for Sunday. Lucille "Gram" Harry was a very special grandmother and great grandmother. We have lots of great memories of her and of so many special times we shared with her. She taught me so much over the 35 years that I was her granddaughter-in-law, including how to make a good pot of Red beans and rice! She had a great sense of humor, her laugh was infectious, and you could make her day with a good piece of cake or some other sweet treat. When I think of Gram, I think of love, laughter, generosity, and good food! Gram was a beautiful woman, inside and out. . . the perfect example of one who "valued others above herself" (see Philippians 2:3-4). She lived for others, always giving, caring, and loving . . . sacrificially. Gram was a blessed woman! God gave her 101 years of life! And all those who knew and loved her were blessed as she touched our lives in unforgettable ways. I have no doubt that when she entered into Heaven, she was greeted with unspeakable love and the words, "Well done, my good and faithful servant . . . Enter into the joy of your Lord (Matthew 25:21). Lucille "Gram" Harry lived a full, beautiful, and meaningful life . . . a beautiful woman, inside and out. She was the perfect example of one who "valued others above herself" (see Philippians 2:3-4). She lived for others, always giving, caring, and loving . . . sacrificially. She was so good to her family and was a joy to be around. Her home was always welcoming and she always had a smile, a good word, and a delicious home cooked meal for those who stopped by. Taking care of others was what she did and loved, and she did it so well. The Lord blessed Gram with 101 years of life, and all who had the honor of knowing and loving her were blessed because she touched our lives in unforgettable ways and her legacy will touch future generations. To my Great Grandmother, we lovingly called "Gram"… you lived a long full life of 101 years the scriptures say in Proverbs 16:31 "Gray hair is a crown of glory, it is gained in a righteous life, and you wore your crown beautifully! All that knew you loved you, and adored you, you were always good for the truth, and delivered it in a funny way (even tho that wasn't always your intent I'm sure). I will never forget your strong Louisiana creole accent, I can hear your voice now, telling us what's what!
