Lola Turner's Obituary
Lola Mae Turner was born to Lee and Ethel Ward in Sacul, Texas on January 3, 1929. She was
was the youngest girl of nine children. She was proceeded in death by her parents, her husband John
C. Turner( JC), son Kelvin Lee Turner, sisters, Zuella, Arzola (Moke), brothers, Zebedee, Willie T, Lee
Jack, Isiah and Nazarene.
Lola attended school in Sacul, Texas before moving to Oakland, California where she completed her
education. Prior to her union with John was born the eldest of 5 children Syble Th omas. Lola met and
married John Turner March 12,1945. To this union 4 children were born Bobbie Jo, Betty Jo, Valarie
Louise and Kelvin Lee.
Lola loved staying active. She worked out regularly and participated in BAY TO BREAKERS. She
was an avid walker. She attended physical fi tness classes regularly. She also taught classes at Jonesersize
and attend classes at the Oakland Army Base. She also loved taking walks with her best friend Louise
Jackson. She loved spending time with her family, and she loved spending time with her (sister-inlaw) Betty Harris who was like a sister. Th ey would spend countless hours together talking, laughing
and traveling the country with all of their children packed in her 1956 Chevy Impala. Lola and Betty
managed a Th rift Shop and Record Shop together. Everyone thought they were connect at the hip.
She loved camping, shopping and she loved to dress.
Lola was a very creative and talented person. She was an extraordinary entrepreneur who’s creative
talents included sewing, decorating, cooking and baking. Her creative talents were experienced by
many: Tuskegee Airmen Luncheons, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory Catering’s, weddings,
anniversaries, birthday’s, baby shower’s, and Family Reunions. Her heart was the biggest thing in her
little body, she was always giving an expecting nothing in return.
On September 7, 2020 Lola was called home to be with her Heavenly Father and Heavenly Family.
She will truly be missed by many.
Lola had one grandchild Kelvin Turner Jr. (Poppy), two great grandchildren Raymond Chambers &
Josiah Philbert who preceded her in death.
Lola leaves to cherish her loving memory 4 children, Syble (Ike) Th omas of Stockton, CA, Bobbie Frost,
Betty (Kevin) Poe of Oakland, CA, Valarie (Anthony) Ashley of Las Vegas, NV; 19 grandchildren, 42
great grandchildren & 18 great great grandchildren; one sister Odesar Morgan of Los Angeles, CA;
sister-in-law, Elizabeth Ward of Oakland, CA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.Lola Turner, 91, passed away on September 7, 2020, in Berkeley, California.
