Judith Jordan's Obituary
Judith Jordan (1940 - 2025)
Judith Jordan; lifelong educator, avid hiker, and longtime resident of Calabasas, CA; 84, of Oakland, CA, passed away on May 8, 2025, at home after a brief illness of pneumonia.
Judy was born in Chicago, Illinois on May 14, 1940 to Silas and Jeanne Narland, joining her two older sisters in the family. They would gain a younger brother three years later. Judy attended Oak Park High School before going to University of Illinois to obtain a BA in History. It was there she met her husband of 46 years, Gregory Jordan.
Judy was a lifelong educator. After marrying Greg, she obtained an MA and teaching certificate from Stanford University and taught for many years. Later on, she served on the Las Virgenes Unified School District School Board for 16 years. She was instrumental in the opening of the Alice C. Stelle Middle School. She was dedicated to ensuring that all children had access to a high quality education.
Judy and Greg were avid hikers and skiers, and instilled a love of the outdoors in their three daughters. Judy traveled extensively during her life, taking multiple trips to Europe, and visiting Peru, Egypt, and Myanmar. She spent the majority of her life living in Calabasas, CA, and loved to sit in her backyard and look at the view of the valley and mountains. Judy also loved to see plays, hear music, and go to museums and was an active member of the Woodland Hills Community Church for many years.
After retiring from the Las Virgenes School Board, Judy served several different leadership roles, including president of the Calabasas Las Virgenes Historical Association, and a member of the Historic Preservation Commission. In these roles, Judy helped ensure the protection of unique historic places in Calabasas by placing them on the Register of Historic Places.
Judy was preceded in death by her husband Greg, her sister Mary, and her brother Steve. She is survived by her sister Barbara and her three daughters: Rachel, Catherine, and Elizabeth, and her four grandchildren. They will never forget the love she brought to their lives.
A Celebration of Life is planned at Woodland Hills Community Church on June 21, 2025 at 2pm. A livestream of the service will be available on YouTube and FaceBook (links below). A second Celebration of Life is planned for August 3 at the home of Kate Jordan.
