Jose, as she was affectionately called, was born in Murcia, Spain, and spent her formative years in Madrid, where after passing the civil service exam, she worked for some years in the public sector. She moved to the United States Read Obituary
I am very grateful for her help in the beginning of Opus Dei work in Puerto Rico
(1970 to 1972). I remember her always cheerful, sincere, loving, understanding and willing to help everybody. I am sure she will continue helping us from heaven.

Jose always took good care of the ladies at Chestnut Center. Every celebration (birthdays especially) were extra special with her eye for details. I never saw Jose as being “senior in years” because with her sense of humor and sportive spirit she always had a “go get them attitude.” I recall she was learning how to do QuickBooks on the computer. I was already overwhelmed with the project, but despite the difficulty with formulas and technology she wasn’t deterred! She said we have to learn new things every day! That’s life! This was Jose, she knew how to live and love! She will be missed!
I will always remember her sense of humor making light of everything serious. When she fell, had two fractured left ribs, the doctor asked the rate of her pain from 1-10, she answered “more or less” But the question was repeated begging her to say the number in the chart, she quipped 5.5, even if we know it was truly painful because when sleep she moaned. She didn’t want to worry us. She was always gentle and gracious to all care givers and visitors making them feel very much appreciated! Her example would be long lasting! Percy Sison
From the time I first met Jose Ramos in the 1980’s at an Opus Dei Center in Manhattan, I have continued to treasure her and give thanks to God for the gift of her life to each person she encountered, whether in the Opus Dei Center or with the children, families and staff at the Rosedale Center’s Summer Program for Girls in the Bronx. Jose was always so open and welcoming towards each person, happy to be with them, treasuring their presence, as if to see a person was to see Jesus and love Jesus in that person, doing little things, and at times, very big things, to look after that person with the attentive warmth, generosity of Jesus, himself; what an indelible example she allowed us to experience! I join with everyone who knows, loves and appreciates Jose, and also with those who never met her, as we pray for the joyous repose of her soul, while also asking Jose to intercede for us with Jesus, that he grant us increasing amounts of his all-powerful grace, to live and love as she did. Last night, I was notified of the death of José Ramos.
I lived with her during two months, she left me pleasant memories of her human quality and her details, as well as her ability to work and transmit a family atmosphere. She was always smiling and even though she was working in her office, when she went out , she always had something new to tell others, make others have a pleasant time.
While in Houston, I was notified of the death of a cousin and she did not hesitate to close the office to take me to pray the rosary (romería)for him. She also told me to write to my uncles; They still keep that letter as a consolation. Jose now enjoys the heaven she desired so much, I entrust myself to her.

My many wonderful memories go back 60 yrs ago and only grew throughout the years ! Jose was always amiable, fun to work with and encouraged all to go forward in their aims in life. I am truly grateful to have known her and had the joy to work with her at various times in my life.
May she rest in peace.
Jose, as we fondly call her, had been a great support to Chestnut Center, a center of formation for young and adult women in the Bay Area and beyond. She was very personable, cared for everyone, had a lot of initiative and spirit of service. Even during her late years and illness, she was the first in serving the others. We will truly miss her but we are very sure of her assistance now that she doesn’t have the physical constraints to do so. We love her very much as we know she loves us too, very very much.
