Dear Family, I did not have the honor of meeting Mr. Cropsey, however I have read and re-read his most incredible Obituary and I now know of this remarkable man and his contributions to many and his love for Oakland. We are fortunate and have benefited tremendously because Mr. Cropsey loved his hometown, Oakland.

We, the Christian Brothers of Mont La Salle – Napa, offer you our condolences and assurance of prayers upon the passing of Bud – the only name by which we knew him. We have wonderful memories and much appreciation for the dedicated and helpful services he provided for many years in his capacity as a partner at John F. Forbes & Co.
I was a young Brother in 1974 on our De La Salle Institute Board and our wine operation, Christian Brothers Wines and Brandy, was also one of Forbes’ accounts. I remember quite clearly how helpful and effective Bud’s advice and counsel proved as we worked out way through many of the challenges to both the wine/brandy operation and its relationship to our religious entity, De La Salle Institute. Bud worked very closely with John Board, legal counsel, and together we were very successful for many years in having funds to greatly help our religious work of education in our Lasallian schools and to care for our senior Brothers in their retirement and health care needs.
Be assured of our prayers for Bud, with gratitude and respect for the many wonderful ways in which his life was a service to many. We also keep in our prayers all of you, his family, and celebrate with you the good Bud accomplished during his life.
