Everett Russell Shockley, Jr.'s Obituary
Everett Russell Shockley, Jr. passed into eternity on October 12, 2016 in Oakland, California at the age of 96 after a lengthy fight with Alzheimer’s disease.
He was preceded in death by his teenage sweetheart and loving wife of 66 years Aline Murrell Shockley, and his two brothers Alfred E. Shockley and Madison T. Shockley. He is survived by one son Everett Wayne Shockley (Leila) of Oakland, CA, one sister Edith Wolfrey of Los Angeles, CA, and two grandchildren.
“Russell” was born on July 24, 1920 in Millington, Tennessee, the eldest of four siblings. He left his home in rural Tennessee to join the U.S. Navy where he served in the Pacific theater during WWII. After the war, he moved to Indianapolis, Indiana where he worked for 33 years as a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service, retiring in 1980. Mr. Shockley was a “jack of all trades” and enjoyed gardening and volunteer work during his lengthy retirement in Indiana and Florida. He was a natty dresser whose ready smile and generosity will me missed by all those whose life he touched.
Burial services will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to:
