Evelyn Posey's Obituary
Evelyn Posey (Dixon) was born on January 26th, 1943 in Bakersfield, Ca. She was the “baby girl” of six children born to the loving union of Robert Lee and Pearl Dixon. Both parents preceded her in death as well as her brother Robert Louis Dixon. Then sadly her husband Howard Posey of 36 years.
Evelyn attended school in Bakersfield, Ca before moving to Oakland, CA in 1957. She then attended Fremont High in Oakland, Ca graduating with the class of 1961. From there Evelyn went on to further her education attending Merritt College, Graduating with an AA in Child Development.
Evelyn met Howard Posey at a bike shop, they fell in love and married April 23rd, 1977, and together they raised their daughter Pamela Gillespie.
Evelyn’s devotion to her family, and her passion for insuring that the traditions passed on to us by our Smith-Dixon-Davis elders/ancestors endure, was legend. Her faith and her family always came first with Evelyn, and she and her late husband Howard Posey were always among the first to volunteer support for any family endeavors. Also, Evelyn was one of the few California family members who regularly maintained contact with family in other states around the country.
In the early 80’s, Evelyn partnered with Shirley Ward and together the two of them opened “Blossom Day School”. Through that professional venture, several lasting “Personal relationships” were established and quite a few of you are here today. That definitely demonstrates the kind of loving person Evelyn was.
On any given day, you could find Evelyn enjoying life. She loved the outdoors, especially walking her one and only son, Pam’s little brother-“Charlie”. Evelyn was a very “simple” person, but her presence and demeanor were well above. She will always be in our hearts.
Evelyn leaves to cherish her memory one loving daughter, Pamela Gillespie; one grandson, Lemuel Lester Gillespie; two granddaughters, Nicole Baker and Ahriana Gillespie; three great granddaughters, Joi Bells Camri Barker, Heaven Barker, Angel Barker; one loving sister Annie Bell Marshall; three loving brothers, Ruben Earl Dixon, Leon Dixon, Billy Gene Dixon, Sr.
