Daric Wolkenhauer's Obituary
Daric (aka Rocky) Wolkenhauer passed away at home on Sunday morning, September 22nd. He was born on November 9th, 1945 at Georgetown Hospital in Washington DC, where his father was stationed in the navy. He grew up in the East Bay, as his parents had before him, graduating from University of California, Berkeley with a degree in English, and working several decades as a high school teacher in the Mount Diablo school district. He lived most of his life in San Francisco, before recently moving to Walnut Creek with his husband of twenty years, Danny Scheie, whom he married on August 12th, 2004 in Toronto. He passionately loved so many things that life had to offer: He was an hardcore opera buff, an avid cinephile (watching a film a day even in the hospital), and an idiosyncratic collector of many things, most famously his glass snow globes from faraway lands picked up in his Phileas-Fogg-worthy world travel adventures. He loved little parrots, most especially Rocky, Donna, Timmy, Duffy, and Bingo. He was a committed spectator of sporting events, including the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeong Chang Korea and multiple Giants or A’s baseball playoffs on both sides of the Bay. He could beat everyone at Motown trivia and was a connoisseur of virtually all genres of popular music. In his last days his music requests varied from Mary Wells to Alice Faye to Hildegard of Bingen to Abba. Besides his husband Danny he is survived by his sister Gail Johnson, his nephew Kevin Johnson and his great nephew Kostas Johnson.
