Fifty years ago at Ygnacio Valley High School, one of my high school teachers was Daric Wolkenhauer. He was the advisor for producing the weekly student newspaper the Smoke Signal. And I can say from the standpoint of fifty years later that he stands out as someone who not only made a significant positive impression on me then, but from the vantage point of decades later, i can heartily recognize he shines as an inspiration in providing, demonstrating, living, delivering, and instilling skills and character, which have stayed with me and benefitted me over the arc of a lifetime. These outpictured for me not only as a successful career in journalism, but also in bedrock skills which he modeled such as conflict resolution, a quiet self-confidence, and believing in dreams even when the going gets tough.
Doing the math now, i see that he was only age 30, 31when I was in high school and that to me is even more of a marvel, that someone so young could exhibit such grace and skill. Thank you for everything Mr. Wolkenhauer. Then and now.
With love from one of your students,
Diamond Driscoll
