Daley Byrd Sr.'s Obituary
Daley was born March 30, 1923 in Bloomburg, Texas, the son of Lewis and Roberta Byrd (Lane) who preceded him in death. Daley had two brothers and seven sisters.
Daley obtained his primary education in Bloomburg, Texas. He moved to Oakland, California as a young man, where he completed his education and graduated from McClymonds High School in Oakland, California.
Daley married the love of his life, Lorene (Young) on December 27, 1945 in Florence, Arizona and they were married for 68 years. To this union, Daley and Lorene were blessed with 6 children.
In 1943, Daley joined the United States Army where his military qualifications was an expert gunner and sharpshooter. His Army specialty was HalfTruck Driver. He was Honorably Discharged in 1944.
Daley was a truck driver by trade and drove big rigs most of his adult life. Being a truck driver afforded him the opportunity to drive all over the United States. After retiring from the Federal Government Daley meet
and made long-time friends at F.H. Dailey Chevrolet Dealership of San Leandro and Oakland California; Aaron Metals of Oakland, California, Oakland Lexus Dealership and Kaiser Steel of Oakland, California, Pressure Cass of Oakland, and many other businesses. Most described Daley as a very talkative and an extremely outgoing individual.
Daley was a good neighbor to everyone in his neighborhood.
Daley was a very interesting individual. If you wanted a history lesson ask him about the military. If you wanted directions to somewhere in the city or another state, you could ask him and he could tell you. If you
asked Daley what he would do in a certain situation he would say “this is what I would do, but you do what you want”.
Daley is survived by his loving devoted wife of 68 years, Lorene Byrd; (3) sons, Chester Lee Byrd of San Francisco, California, Daley Byrd Jr. of Oakland, California, Genova Michael Byrd of Oakland, California;
(3) daughters, Lorraina Byrd of Oakland, California, JoAnn Byrd of Oak..,
land, California and Cynthia J. Byrd of Oakland, California; (2) sisters, Ms. Lulu Byrd and Mrs. Vera Mason both of Houston, Texas, a sister-inlaw, Mrs. Emma Byrd of Hayward, California (2)granddaughters, Ramona T. Jackson-Breland and Dairyona L. Byrd, (8)grandsons, Marcus D. Jackson, Daley Byrd III., Dana Byrd, Erik L. Hamilton, Rashidi 0. Byrd, Quenton Dugar, Balewa JaJa Byrd, and Julius Byrd. (1) son-in-law Alphonzo Breland. He also leaves to mourn his passing (25) great grandchildren, one great, great-grandchild, and a host of nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.
