Dale Wong's Obituary
Dale Wong passed away on Friday, February 27, after a year-long battle with lung cancer. Born and raised in Oakland—a city she proudly called home for 79 years—Dale was the eldest child of Dale and Darlene and a caring and wise older sister to her siblings Steve, Deborah, and Mark. After graduating from San Francisco State University, Dale earned a Master’s Degree in Chemistry from San Francisco State and went on to work in medical labs in the East Bay and later at UCSF.
Dale devoted her free time to family, friends, and music. She took exceptionally good care of her mother Darlene with whom she enjoyed a close relationship, and treasured her connections to her aunts, uncles and cousins. She was a most special and generous aunt to Sarah, Olivia, and Celeste, and enjoyed being a great aunt to Lola and Jaden. Her family heritage was a great source of pride and she was an active Board member of the Wong Family Association.
Dale nurtured long friendships with school and college friends and with co-workers present and past. She remembered birthdays, important dates, and rites of passage better than anyone. She cherished her connection to her friend Bill through many years and across two continents.
When she wasn’t busy caring for others, Dale nurtured her love of classical music. She was an accomplished classical pianist whose baby grand piano was her pride and joy, and she attended as many concerts at the San Francisco Symphony as she could.
To be in Dale’s orbit meant to be the recipient of constant kindness, attention, and generosity (and likely a red envelope from time to time). We will miss her more than she could ever know.
