Cindy's ObituaryBorn March 29, 1948Died February 24, 2011Location Oakland, CaliforniaI live in grace and gratitude honoring myself and others with love and compassion.Cynthia Moore passed away Thursday morning February 24, 2011 in her home in Oakland with her husband, Terry Nordstrom, at her side following a year-long effort to overcome cancer. Cindy will be forever remembered as a caring, loving, and giving partner, sister, aunt, friend, stepmother, educator and physical therapist by the many people whose lives she touched. Cindy is survived by her husband, Terry Nordstrom, her brother James Moore, her sister Valerie Moore, and her brother Barry Hesseltine. She was welcomed into Terry's life by his sons, Chris, Adam and Matthew. She was a dearly beloved aunt by her nieces Julia and Meghan and her nephews Scott, Will, Matthew, and Adam. Cindy grew up in Barre Massachusetts and Somers Connecticut. She left the east coast for California to pursue her master's degree in physical therapy at the University of Southern California and made California her home. Her work led her to an 18 year tenure as the Chair of the Department of Physical Therapy at Mount Saint Mary's College in Los Angeles. When she moved to Oakland in 2003 to join Terry she worked as a physical therapist in home care in the Oakland community.Cindy loved being in nature, whether it was Yosemite or the Audobon park near her home in Barrie. She welcomed many rescued pets into her life, including the two cats, Simon and Thumbelina, and Daisy, the terrier she and Terry adopted two days after her cancer diagnosis. Her spiritual wisdom and caring will live on through the work of the hundreds of physical therapists who were her students and through all of those who knew her.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cindy Moore Scholarship for Physical Therapy at Mount Saint Mary's College in Los Angeles or to Heifer International.A memorial service is being held at 4:00 PM Wednesday March 2, 2011 at Chapel of the Chimes, 4499 Piedmont Avenue, Oakland, California.
