Cage Leroy Weary's Obituary
In Loving Memory of Cage Leroy Weary
“Mr. St. Patrick’s” October 5th, 1948 – August 1st, 2025
Cage Leroy Weary, affectionately known as “Leroy,” “Leaky,” “Roy,” and “Papa,” was born on October 5, 1948, in Columbia, Mississippi, to the late Cassie Weary and Bernice Jackson Weary Adams. He was lovingly raised by his Aunt Alberta and devoted grandparents; Mr. Cage Jackson and Mrs. Lucy “Momma” McClendon Jackson & Stepmother Ina Bell Weary.
Leroy attended Marion County Training School, later renamed John J. Jefferson High School, where he was an enthusiastic and talented Drum Major of the Green Waves Marching Band from 1963 to 1967. He graduated proudly with the Class of 1967.
That same year, Leroy married Patricia Payton at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Columbia, Mississippi. Though their marriage ended in 1971, their union brought forth two cherished children: Geraldine S. Weary Hampton (Columbia, MS) and Patrick R. Weary (Dallas, TX).
Professionally, Leroy began his career in St. Louis, Missouri, working at General Motors and Chrysler while attending junior college. He later moved to the San Francisco Bay Area, launching a long and successful career with Xerox Corporation. Rising from Electronic Technician to a key member of the management team, he worked in the Santa Clara and San Mateo branches, earning numerous national corporate honors such as the Par Club Award and the President’s Club Award.
He also spearheaded a Community Involvement Program in partnership with the Martin Luther King Community Center in San Mateo, CA—an initiative funded by Xerox to train and place minorities in entry-level jobs within the company.
After retiring from Xerox, Leroy became co-owner of Alexander Cage Fashions, a men’s and women’s boutique in San Francisco, which he ran for 19 years with his late best friend and business partner, David Alexander. His community leadership continued when he was appointed to the Mayor's Council of Economic Planning and Development for the Bayview-Hunters Point District of San Francisco.
Leroy was a devout Roman Catholic. After moving to California, he became a faithful member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in San Francisco, where he served on the Pastoral Council, was Financial Secretary of the Knights of St. Peter Claver, and sang in the Gospel Choir.
He later joined St. Patrick Catholic Church in Oakland, where he deeply immersed himself in ministry. He served as a Lector, Eucharistic Minister, Liturgical Committee member, President of the Pastoral Council, Chairman of the Pastoral Transition Committee, and President and longtime member of the Gospel Choir for over 17 years until his resignation in October 2009.
Leroy loved ministering through song and praise and was passionate about serving the people of God. He dearly loved his St. Patrick family and returned to the church often even after moving back to Columbia in 2009 to care for his stepmother. In 2013, he returned to active ministry at St. Patrick’s, continuing to serve in faith and joy.
He was preceded in death by His loving parents, Cassie Weary and Bernice Jackson Weary Adams; His cherished grandparents, Cage and Lucy "Momma" Jackson; Stepmother Ina Bell Weary; Dear Aunt Alberta; Brother Billy D. Weary; God-sister and her husband, Louise and John Wood; And beloved God-daughter, Chrianna Bell.
