Annele Marie Nelson's Obituary
Annele Marie Nelson, 71, passed away peacefully in Oakland, California on January 28, 2023. She was born in South Bend, Indiana on September 4, 1951 to John Nelson and Elaine Nicklaus (nee Anderson) and graduated from the University of California with a bachelors in English and Political Science. Annele had many talents and accomplishments such as interior design, which she used to create many beautiful spaces including her beloved restaurants Juano’s and John Alexander’s that operated in the Fargo-Moorhead area for over 20 years. She was a consummate intellectual, reading voraciously and always ready to debate vigorously. In addition to great film, music, and food, one of her greatest loves was people, especially children. Annele was intentionally, irrepressibly open to and interested in everyone she met. This led her to create a rich and constantly growing network of lives she touched everywhere she spent time, from Virginia Beach to Fargo, from Chicago to California.
Annele leaves behind many bereft family and friends, including her son John Nelson Mondragon, daughter-in-law Elise Belusa, grandchildren Hattie Mondragon Belusa and Elio Mondragon Belusa, children she helped raise Magnolia Talbott and Jason Nicklaus, siblings Todd, Brian, Stacey, Trent, Missy, and the self-avowed love of her life Juan Mondragon.
A memorial will be held in Fargo, North Dakota in Summer 2023.
