Alva Cortez's Obituary
Alva Cortez was born September 8th 1960 and passed on October 27th 2013 in Oakland CA. She is survived by her beloved Fiancé Nicholas Posner, Mother Loida Olivas, Brother Dan Cortez, Nephew Jeremy Cortez, Cousins Little Alva and Alpha, her two loving pit-bulls Maya & Budzinski II, Black Cat Stormy, and many other family members. She was preceded in death by her Brother Ernie Cortez, previous Fiancé Kenny Dalton, and Father John Cortez. Alva was a vivacious and loving person with a large extended family of very close friends: Lisa De La Sol, Jonell Stooksberry, Cynthia Corsi, Kat Creason, Paula Giacometti, and many, many, more!! She was an avid fan of all Oakland Sports, a member of the Raider Nation attending games all throughout her life, a Raiders Season Ticket Holder since they returned to Oakland in 1995, attendee of many A’s games every year, a passionate snow boarder, soft-baller, first base person, golfer, and loved to be indoors or outdoors with her pets. She worked as a payroll administrator as a profession, but her real work and passion was working with animals in need of rescue. She volunteered at Oakland Animal Services and that is where she was at her best. Services will be held this Sunday 11/3/13 @11:30 am in the Julia Morgan Chapel at Chapel of the Chimes-Oakland 4499 Piedmont Ave Oakland, CA 94611.
