My condolences to the Cortez Family and Friends. It was great to share good times and memories at Alameda High School. Alva you were such an inspiration with your love of life and an avid animal lover. You will be greatly missed.
I met Alva about 10 years ago and we clicked immediately . Although we didn't see each other often, when we met up at parties, lastly the boat party, we talked for hours. I was very lucky to know Alva and I am very grateful to have been one of her friends. I met Alva when I joined Livescribe in 2007 and we worked closely together for three years. She and I shared the same birth date (Sept 8th). It was always the two of us standing side-by-side when Livescribe celebrated our birthdays. Alva had one of the most beautiful and friendly personalities that anyone could possess. Her smile and laugh were infectiuous. She made many, many friends throughout the company. Everybody new of her "passion" for the Raiders and the A's. She often talked about her dogs with such joy. My most cherished memory of Alva was actually from the very last time I saw Alva….I attended a Wednesday afternoon A's game with her and some of our Livescribe friends…I even brought along my (then) 6 year old son, Nico, and I have a picture from that memorable day at the ballpark. I just posted several pictures of Alva with her Livescribe family. I hope they bring a smile to those who view them. I would like to extend a very warm-hearted "Thank You" to Byron Connell (Livescribe CMO) for capturing those precious moments and providing the pictures for me to post. It is so true that you do not realize how much someone has meant to you until they are no longer with you. I am very saddened and heartbroken to learn of Alva's passing. I will never forget the brief, but impactful time I shared in Alva's life. I will miss her very very much. My thoughts, prayers and condolences go out to her family. Sincerely, Frank Lucero
I had the honor of meeting Alva thru the love of her life, Nick Posner. She walked into our home with a smile on her face like she knew us for years. I took an immediate liking to her, as did my whole family. I remember I was sitting in the living room and being it was Christmastime, the chairs and the couches were full. No worries. Alva sat on the carpeted floor and we just started talking. She was a breath of fresh air. She was so intelligent, well versed on any topic. She is one of those people that, even though our visits were few, I can honestly say, I'm a better person for knowing her. I pray she has found heaven to be filled with her four legged friends who I'm sure we're there to welcome her home.
