Williatta O. Curry's Obituary
Williatta O. Curry, affectionately called “Willie” by her family and friends was born on June 2, 1939, in Perth Amboy, New Jersey to the late Otis and Sadie Winfield. She was the oldest of four children (all girls). She was reared in a Christian home with loving and hard-working parents. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and was baptized by the late Reverend S. M. Metters Jr.
Williatta was one of four children born to Otis and Sadie Winfield in Perth Amboy. She confessed her faith in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at an early age uniting with Mount Calvery Baptist Church and later with Saint Rest Missionary Baptist Church, founded and Pastor for many years by the beloved and late Reverend S. M. Metters, Jr., and then his successor, Pastor James E. Lawson, Sr. As a choir member, she actively participated in many choir functions. Her first love was singing, and she could SANG!!
Williatta received her education through the Oakland Unified School District. She attended Fremont High School and later went on to work for the United States Postal Service. She worked there for 40 years before finally retiring to hang out with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She loved her work and providing for her family.
Williatta married Eddie Joe Curry, Sr, and to this union was blessed with two sons, Eddie Joe and Darren Keith, and three daughters Cheryl Denise, Charlene Renet, and Charlotte Rene. She loved her family and they occupied a special place in her heart. Devotedly, she always encouraged her nieces, nephews, and other relatives to be the best they can be. Many of her friends found her to be quite genuine and also had the willingness to help when needed.
Those who knew Williatta will never forget her infectious smile and awesome laughter. She will be missed beyond words.
On Sunday, January 01, 2023, at 9:55 am at Kaiser Permanente Hospital, Oakland, CA, Williatta transitioned from her earthly home to her Heavenly home. She was surrounded by her beloved sons. She was preceded in death by her parents Otis and Sadie Winfield; sisters Beverly, Marilyn, and Novella, and her daughter, Charlene.
She leaves to cherish her loving memory, daughters Cheryl Denise Curry-Blaylock (John) and Charlotte Curry of Oakland, CA., sons Eddie Joe Curry (Crystal) of Rancho Cordova, CA., and Darren Keith Curry of Oakland, CA, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends including her Saint Rest MBC family.
