William Frank Weeden M.D.
Also known as ‘Apple Bill,’ died peacefully on December 13, 2014. Born May 1, 1920 in Oakland to the late Frank and Mabel H. Weeden of Alameda, CA. He graduated from Alameda High and earned his A.B. and M.D. degrees at Stanford University. From 1945-1947 he served in the US Army as 1st Lt Medical Corp, stationed in Panama and Tokyo.
After military service he returned to the Bay Area, initially performing a residency in San Francisco and then establishing a private practice in internal medicine in Oakland. He eventually served as President of the Alameda County Heart Association and Chief of Medicine at Samuel Merritt and Peralta hospitals. He retired from medical practice in 1990 and became active as a docent at the Knowland Park Zoo and on the boards of Friends of the U.C. Botanical Garden and the East Bay Zoological Society. He was an avid fly fisherman and also spent many hours in his garden tending his small orchard.
He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Patricia; his three younger brothers Alan, John, and Donald, his daughter Barbara, his sons Norman, Charles, and William; nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
