Jerry Czajkowski
My deepest sympathies. I learned of his passing just recently, so sorry I was late to learn of it. I hope the family is doing well and Bill’s memory is a wonderful one.
Whenever I talked about Bill to folks that didn't know him, I always referred to him as 'my friend Bill', never just 'Bill'. I truly treasured our friendship. My house is overrun with cds, DVDs, cassette tapes that he shared with me over the years. I left the Bay Area in 1998, and we stayed friends all these years. It was too special to let go of. I saw him whenever he came to San Diego and we kept up a lively correspondence in between. This is going to be hard. I'm really going to miss him. I find I'm catching myself even now seeing things I know he would appreciate and thinking 'gotta tell Bill about this!'. He was a great friend and I'm really going to miss him.
I didn't know Bill all that well, although I knew the family from swimming and we would talk while August was swimming. But I remember talking to him one day and it turned out we both went to St. Stephens, which considering the number of students there at that time, was amazing. I am sorry to hear of his passing and wish his family all the best.
As I am unable to attend the services, I would like to share some memories here. I had the pleasure to work with Bill for about 3 years very early in my career. And although itâ??s been about 16 years since I last saw Bill, I still remember one of my first days in the lab when he kindly showed me how to use a pipetman for the first time. He was funny and often generous to share the things that he loved. I specifically remember him randomly giving me an Iris Dement CD that he already owned because he couldnâ??t pass it up when he found it in a used CD bin. And I still own and use his old food mill that he passed along to me when he upgraded his model. I will remember sharing Dan Bern CDs with him and the patience and respect he showed me in the lab when I knew practically nothing. My deepest condolences,Julie McKnight
