William Peterson's Obituary
Bill Peterson was born June 7, 1930 in Indianapolis, Indiana to the union of Lamar and Grace Peterson. He graduated from Crispus Attucks High School in 1948. He was drafted by theU.S. Army in August of 1951 and was honorably discharged in July of 1953. In 1964 he completed certified training in Cytotechnology at the University of Wisconsin. Bill received a B.A. in Health Science from San Francisco State University in 1979. He was a member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity. In June of 1975 he met Lois Constance Collins and they were married on July 19, 1976. In 1964 he started working as a Cytotechnologist at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Oakland, California. In 1980 he became an Equal Opportunity Specialist at Alameda Naval Air Rework Facility. He retired from there in June of 1991. In July of 1993 he started working at Kaiser Hospital as a Cytotechnologist. He retired from there in 2004.Bill was a community activist and belonged to many civic and community groups. He received numerous awards for his hard work and dedication to the citizens of Oakland, California. Bill believed that the citizens of Oakland should be assured that city regulations and policies were implemented fairly. He also felt citizens should be assured that public officials were operating within the law. He was preceded in death by his parents Lamar and Grace Peterson, Brothers; Horace Peterson and Gregory PetersonBill Peterson is survived by his Wife of 30 years Lois Peterson, daughter Latrice Collins-Lampkins, son-in-law Keith Lampkins, grandson Evan Collins, brothers; Lamar Peterson Jr., wife Inez Peterson, Homer Smith, wife Beverly Smith, Rodney Peterson, wife Cornelia Peterson, sisters; Naomi Hall, husband Jack Hall, Delores Donald, husband Calvin Donald, and Phyllis Peterson. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews and many many friends. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday January 11th 2007 beginning at 12:00 PM at Chapel of the Chimes Mortuary, 4499 Piedmont Avenue Oakland, CA 94611. Internment following at Rolling Hills Cemetery located in Richmond, CA. Visitation at the Mortuary on Wednesday January 10th 2007 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
