WILLIAM MORRIS JENKINS, JR., MD's Obituary
William Morris Jenkins Jr., MD Resident of Piedmont William Morris Jenkins, Jr. MD, age 83, died at his home in Piedmont on August 15, 2012. Born on February 12, 1929 in Greensboro, North Carolina to William and Willie Jenkins, he graduated from Morehouse College in 1953 where he was a featured soloist in the Morehouse College Glee Club. He received a Doctor of Medicine degree from Meharry Medical College in 1957 and completed residencies in OB/GYN, Pediatrics and Cardiology. He lived in Greensboro, Atlanta, Nashville, Kansas City, Berkeley and Piedmont and worked at North Oakland Pediatrics and Richmond Pediatrics for 50 years until he retired earlier this year. Dr. Jenkins provided pediatric services to tens of thousands of underserved children in the San Francisco Bay Area, performing over 1 million patient examinations through his career. Dr. Jenkins received numerous awards throughout his career, including the 2001 Doctor of the Year from the National Medical Association. He will be remembered by the community for his generosity and the care he provided over his five decades of service. Survivors include his wife Carol Lee Jenkins, his sons William Morris Jenkins III and John Lewis Jenkins, his daughter-in-law Amy Yamner Jenkins and his granddaughter Ella Sandy Jenkins. William was preceded in death by his brother Lewis Jenkins and his sisters-in-law Emma Jenkins and Madlyn Jenkins. A memorial service will be held at 1pm Saturday, August 25, 2012 at Hilltop Community Church, 3118 Shane Dr., Richmond, CA, 94806. Friends are welcome to attend. Dr. Jenkins was buried at Mountain View Cemetery in Oakland in a small family ceremony last week. Memorial contributions are welcome at Lifelong Medical Care, P.O.
