OBITUARY (Updated 1/4/23)
Wenceslao Garcia Nipay, 85, of Berkeley, California died peacefully on December 18, 2022 with his loving wife, daughters, and son-in-law at his side.
Wenceslao is survived by his wife, Mercedita Ramos Nipay; his children, Judy Nipay Gee (Alvin Gee) and Judita Nipay Weisenberg (Mike Weisenberg); his daughter-in law, Tammie Nipay; his grandchildren, Chiara Higa Bellisario (Alexus Higa Bellisario), Massimo Bellisario, Michael Weisenberg, Matthew Weisenberg, Alexandra Weisenberg, Lauryn Estacio, Ari Estacio, and David Weisenberg; his great-grandchild, Anthony Higa Bellisario; his siblings, Cheling N. Paran. Lucy N. Exarhopoulos, Lorenza N. Cabiscuelas, Feliciano G. Nipay, Felix G. Nipay, Thelma N. Garcia, Apolinario G. Nipay, Wennie Jude Porto Nipay; and numerous nieces, nephews, and in-laws. He is predeceased by his son, Wennie Jude Ramos Nipay, and his sister Ligaya N. Garcia.
Wenceslao, also known as Wennie, was born in Balete, Batangas, Philippines on September 28, 1937 to Antonio Nipay and Leodegaria Garcia Nipay. He graduated from Far Eastern University, College of Law with a Law degree and started his career as an Insurance Lawyer. On November 3, 1963, he married his beloved wife, Mercedita. On October 1965, September 1967, and June 1973, respectively, he welcomed his three beautiful children, who, along with his wife, were the most important part of his life.
Wennie was a devoted family man, as well as an active and dedicated community leader. In the Philippines, Wennie was awarded the most honest public servant. He immigrated to America on December 26, 1970, and purchased his first home in Berkeley, CA. Wennie established his own insurance agency with Farmers Insurance in 1973 and was well-known for the service he provided. Wennie was an active member of the Lions Club International, Integrated Bar of the Philippines in CA, Toastmasters International of CA, Knights of Columbus of CA, Cabugao Sons and Daughters of CA, and Jaycees International of CA. Wennie held the position as Charter President for Lions Clubs International and Vice President for Cabugao Sons and Daughter of CA.
Wennie Nipay believed in the power of education and founded a vocational and college preparatory school in Balete, Batangas. This school was free to the public, providing an opportunity to those wishing to advance their education and career. Wennie Garcia Nipay will be deeply missed by his friends, family, and all who knew him.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate Wennie's life. Viewing will be on Friday January 6, 2023 from 4-8 pm at Chapel of the Chimes, Oakland, 4499 Piedmont Ave., Oakland, CA 94611. Requiem mass will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2023 at 12 pm at St. Clements - 750 Calhoun St., Hayward, CA 94544. Burial will follow on January 7, 2023 at 2:15pm at Chapel of the Chimes, Hayward - 32992 Mission Blvd., Hayward, CA 94544.
