Wayne Clarence Williams' Obituary
Wayne Clarence Williams was born on April 11, 1927, in Piney Woods,
Mississippi to his late parents Pendora “Dora” and Elisha Williams.
His childhood and youthful years were spent in his birthplace where he
attended and graduated from Piney Woods College High school. Wayne
served two tours in the Army and was honorably discharged in 1949 and
1952. While in service he attended and graduated from Cooking and
Baking School for Colored and worked as a baker.
After moving to Saint Louis, Missouri in 19 51, he met and married Doris
Rogers. While in Saint Louis they welcomed four children, Gregory,
Linda, Sandra, and Monica before the family migrated to San Francisco,
California and welcomed their last child, Gordon in 1961. Wayne began
his career as an AC Transit Bus driver for Alameda County in November
1960 and retired after 32 years of service.
Wayne was a caregiver, always there for his family, friends and
neighbors. He never said “NO”. He lived a life that was exemplified by
the scripture, Matthew: 25 verse 35-40. He was also gifted at rehabbing
old houses. It was one of his favorite things to do with his favorite
buddies.
Wayne passed away peacefully on December 27, 2013. He was
preceded in death by his wife Doris, and his son Gregory. He is survived
by his sister, Doris Williams James, his loving children, Linda Preston,
Sandra McCrary (Maurice), Monica Marshall, and Gordon Williams.
His Beloved grandchildren, Gregory Williams, Brittany McCrary, Justin
Preston (Andrea), Courtney McCrary, Will Preston, Robert Preston,
Wayne Preston, Austin Marshall, Elijah Williams, Joshua Williams,
Maci Williams, Marcus Callis, Gina Gramkin, Derian Murray and Paris
Cole. Dearly loved great grandchildren, Calista King, Arayah Williams,
Justin Preston, Parker Preston, Jett Preston, and Gregory Williams.
Much loved nephews, Van Taylor and Kenneth Williams, as well as a
host of other nephews, great nephews, nieces, great nieces, cousins and
other relatives and close family friends.
He was a beloved husband, father, father-in-law, brother, uncle, friend,
teacher and mentor and will be missed by all.
