Dear Marda and Family: As a great friend for years now, I would like to extend my sincerest condolences upon the passing of Ward Joseph Stothers. I will always remember him as a calm, cool, collected person who never lost his temper and would never utter an unkind word. His good deeds were many, too many to recount here. He gave freely of himself: his intellect, his talents, and especially his writing. He will never be forgotten, as he still continues to dwell in our hearts here in Belfast, Northern Ireland.
I’m grateful to have shared with Ward being among Berkeley’s “Jesus People” dating back to the late 60’s/70’s era and then continuing in similar directions forward with common friends and and even closer friendship through Marda. Over the years, I felt so supported by Ward & Marda in my ministry calling to InterVarsity student work in the US, then in Canada. And then when Ward ‘s sense of God’s calling to minister in Ireland got fulfilled! Why, Ward & Marda would write letters from Belfast, Ireland, and even though the miles had put more distance between us, I had never felt more close and bonded. Because we were sharing in something so precious: following hard after the Lord Jesus Christ and being servants of His, in ministry, away from home, among His people, in a new home for us.Blessed homecoming to Jesus, Dear Ward!
