Wanti Tjia's Obituary
Wanti Tjia was born in the town of Teluk Betung located in the Southeast part of Indonesian Sumatra Island. She was the second child in her family with one elder brother, 5 younger sisters, and 2 younger brothers.
At the age of 18, Wanti traveled to Jakarta by herself to attend a senior high school. Before she graduated, Wanti began to teach in Belitung Island where she met her husband, Oen Kim Ong. They got married in 1949 and had 5 children: Fei Ling, Wei Ping, Ai Ping, Po Ling (Kie Poling), and Siao Ping (Ongky Ong). In 1960 Wanti began to teach History in one elementary school in Jakarta and started an offset printing company with her husband in 1970.
After her husband passed away in 1982, Wanti moved to California and lived with her daughter, Kie Poling. In 1993 she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal savior and was baptized into the Indonesian Evangelical Church in San Francisco. After moving to Eskaton Senior Housing in El Cerrito in 2003, Wanti has become an ardent follower of Jesus Christ and member of Chinese for Christ Berkeley Church until being with our Lord Jesus Christ.
