Violet Powell's Obituary
Violet Powell was born Violrt Maud Gabbidon on June 22, 1922. She rew up in Jamacia, West Indies. She was raised in a loving family with three sisters and a brother. In her early 20's she came to the United States to live with her Uncle, John Wiggan and Aunt Elvira. She had a wonderful time with her cousins, Elvera, Walter, Carlton and Herman.
She later met and married William Powell, Sr. A former veteran of the U.S. Army and a 30 years employee of the Alameda Naval Air Station. They were married for 44 years, until he departed on December 11, 1994. Together they raised three children, William Powell, Jr., Winston Powell and Melody Powell. Violet was a devoted mother.
Violet attended St. Augustine's Episcopal Church for many years. She sang in the choir. She had a lovely soprano voice. She also learned to play the piano later in life.
Violet worked as an aide for the Oakland Public School District. Violet loved being with er friends. They often went on weekend trips to Reno, NV and on fishing trips. Violet was always physically fit. She loved to exercise and be active. She enjoyed walking until the last days of her life.
Violet will be reunited with her husband, her parents, Mary and George Gabbidon, brother, Vincent Gabidon and sisters, Roslyn Gordon, Gwen Wisdom and Ivy Lewis. Violet leaves behind her three children, William Jr., Winston and Melody. Grandchildren; Roxann, Alicia and Jasen; Tanika, Isaaih and Melissa to cherish her memory and a host of other relatives and friends.
