Tina Wong

Tina Wong passed away on Monday, November 6, 2017 at the age of 68. She was born to Sing and Gim Wong on November 17, 1948 in Oakland. She graduated from Oakland High School in 1966 and received her B.A. in Office Administration from San Francisco State University in 1970. After graduation, Tina worked at Kaiser Steel, Oakland, for 13 years. In 1985, she began working at the Haas School of Business, University of California, Berkeley, in the Personnel Office and later in the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs Office as an academic human resources analyst. She was an esteemed employee who enjoyed working with the faculty and staff and had many friends among them. She retired from Berkeley-Haas after 25 years.
Tina was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her siblings, June Wong of Oakland, Dian Lowe (Noel) of Fremont, Robert Wong and Steven Wong of San Jose; her nephews Greg Lowe (Amanda Kim) of San Jose and Paul Lowe (Yesenia Alamillo) of Pleasanton; and her great- nieces Anabel, Juliana, and Emma Lowe.
Despite her health issues over the past 10 years, Tina always remained upbeat and had a positive attitude. She enjoyed attending the Cal Women’s Basketball games, taking walks on summer vacations in Kings Beach (North Lake Tahoe), attending concerts on the UC Berkeley campus, and spending time with family and friends. She had a lifelong love of reading for pleasure.
The family would like to thank the physicians, nurses, and staff at Kaiser Permanente, Oakland, for taking such good care of Tina.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Tina’s memory to the Friends of the Oakland Public Library, 721 Washington Street, Oakland, CA 94607.
A celebration of Tina’s life will be held on Sunday, December 3, at 10:30am at The Faculty Club located on the University of California-Berkeley campus on Minor Lane, Berkeley, CA 94720. The family welcomes all who would like to attend.
