Thomas Ng's Obituary
Resident of AlamedaThomas Ng was born on February 14, 1913, and spent his first 25 years in Taishan County, Guangdong Province, China. Upon immigrating to the USA in 1937, Thomas got a job at a Chinese pharmacy in San Francisco, and then, when his new homeland went to war, joined the merchant marine and worked as a burner at the shipyards at Fort Mason.In 1945, Thomas married Ruby Agnes Wong. Following the birth of their first son Raymond in 1946 they moved to Alameda, where a daughter Karen was born the next year and 2 sons, Freeman and Berman, in 1960 and 1962.Thomas opened his herbalist practice in 1938 and quickly gained a wide reputation. Patients came to him from afar, and he would serve them for nearly sixty years.He died peacefully on Sept. 16, 2012, from pneumonia, at the age of 99. He was preceded in death by his daughter Karen Ng Bradley, his brother Fred Wu, and his sisters Mee Yuen Toy May Shau Ng; and is survived by his wife Ruby, his children Ray (Linda), Freeman, and Berman; his grandchildren Kali (Chris Lippi) Jones, Trina (Teddy) Park, Lori (Ben) Montgomery, Christie (David) Lau, Gregory Ng; his great grandchildren Ava Alex Lippi, Isabella Park, Joshua Ellie Montgomery, and Emma Lau; his brother Hoover; many nephews and nieces and extended family that knew his kindness and his care; and countless patients helped and healed.Visitation is on Friday, Sept. 28, 2012, from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM. Memorial service is on Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012, at 10:30 AM. Both are held at Chapel of the Chimes, 4499 Piedmont Ave., Oakland.
