Theresa "Josie" Dugard's Obituary
Theresa (Josie) Dugard passed away on Wednesday, September 18, 2019 at the age of 92. She was born to the late Ben & Nora Brosnan on September 7, 1927. She was preceded in death by her husband, Reg, and her son, Kevin. She is survived by three of her children Reginald (Reggie), Brian and Theresa.
Josie was born on a farm in Tournafulla, Ireland and was one of eight children. After she was done with her schooling she moved to England to work at the Channel View hotel as a maid and met her husband Reginald (Reg) who was working there as a waiter. They were married in England in 1949, after knowing each other for only 6 months, and worked together in private service in England. They moved to the United States when they were sponsored by a family in New Rochelle, New York to work for them in private service.
Eventually Josie & Reg moved to Long Island, where they were naturalized as U.S. citizens in 1960. They lived in Glen Cove and then moved to Hauppauge where they lived for 38 years. Josie started out in Hauppauge as an at-home-Mom, raising her four children. When the children got older, Josie went back to work as a Food Service Worker at the Pilgrim State Psychiatric Hospital, where she stayed until she retired.
After both she and Reg were retired, they enjoyed traveling in their RV to Florida (where it was warm)! Josie loved listening to Irish folk music and country music, going to the casino to play slot machines, dancing, and socializing. She used to say her two favorite things in life were eating and sleeping.
The family would like to thank all of those who helped care for Josie during her last days. A funeral will be held at the Chapel of the Chimes in Oakland on October 5th, 2019 at 2PM.
In lieu of flowers, we’d like to suggest a donation of gift cards (Amazon, Home Depot, Walmart, Dollar Store) to the Senior Day Club where Josie enjoyed spending her days the last couple of years:
