Thelma Davis' Obituary
Obituary
THELMA DAVIS was born September 5, 1929 in Lexsy, Georgia. She was the third of 4 children and only daughter of Asberry and Ellen Holloway. She accepted Jesus Christ and Lord and Savior at an early age.
Thelma was raised in rural Georgia. She moved to the city, where she graduated from
Risley High School in Brunswick, GA. She attended and graduated from Beauty College.
Thelma was introduced by an extended family member to Bobby Davis Sr., who she later married on March 28, 1953. While Bobby was serving in the Army during the Korean War conflict, they had two beautiful children, Bobby Jr. and Sharon. After Bobby Sr. left the military, the family travelled across country and moved to Alameda, California. Later, they purchased a home in Oakland, CA, where another precious child was born, Kelvin.
Thelma and Bobby Sr. worked very hard to provide a loving and nurturing home life. Unfortunately, Bobby Jr. when he was 5 years-old, in 1959, he developed mumps, which was complicated by meningeal encephalitis. This resulted in both physical and cognitive disabilities. Thelma became a tireless caregiver for Bobby Jr until his homegoing in December 2014.
Thelma became PTA President at Stonehurst Elementary School, where she was later employed as an Instructional Assistant. After 20+ years, she retired from Oakland Public Schools.
Thelma joined Allen Temple Baptist Church with her family, where she loved fellowshipping and serving
in the ATBC Women’s Mission Society and Sunday School Class #5. She loved to cook soulful culinary foods with love, which brightened the hearts of her family, friends and church members. Inside and outside of the church she was also know as “Mom Davis” because of her spirit to care and to give to anyone in need. It didn’t matter if she knew someone or not. For her it was all about God’s purpose to serve and respond to any need with love.
She was a dedicated wife and mother, who loved to travel across country – New York City,
Washington DC, Vancouver Canada, Hawaii and the Caribbean Islands and many family reunions in her home State of Georgia.
Her favorite bible verse, “Philippians 4:13 – I can do all things through Christ which
strengthens me. (KJV)” Thelma was a person of strong faith and loved her life serving others.
She went from labor to reward peacefully in her home on January 8, 2020.
Thelma was preceded by her parents, Asberry and Ellen Holloway; brothers James, Henry and Odell;
son Bobby Jr.; and grand-daughter Destiny. Thelma was survived by her husband, Bobby Davis Sr.;
children Sharon and Kelvin (Donna); grand-children Kelvin Jr. and Jasmine; and a host of
nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.
The following is a quote that Mom carried with her and captured her spirit:
Where there is faith,
there is love
Where there is love,
there is peace
Where there is peace,
there is God
Where there is God
there is no need
Mom is with God now and she has no needs and we can hear God say, “well done thy good and faithful servant”
