Terry Moreland's Obituary
Terry Moreland, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and community leader, passed away peacefully in Oakland, California, on December 27, 2024, at the age of 80. Born in San Francisco and a longtime resident of Oakland, Terry was known for his humor, generous spirit, and unwavering kindness. He led a life filled with love, service, and dedication to those around him.
Terry's commitment to his community was evident in his leadership roles, including serving as past president of the Lake Merritt Breakfast Club, Children’s Fairyland, and the Lincoln Child Center Foundation. He was also a past member of Oakland Rotary, Moraga S.I.R.S and Sequoyah Country Club. He was a devoted volunteer at the Odd Fellows Recreation Club in Sonoma County, where he cherished time in the redwoods with family and friends. Terry’s ability to give his time and energy to causes close to his heart left a lasting impact on many.
An avid sports fan, Terry had a lifelong devotion to the San Francisco Giants, 49ers, and the Golden State Warriors. His passion for sports began early, playing basketball at Oakland High School. Terry enjoyed a variety of hobbies, including golf, fishing, skiing, tennis, traveling, wine tasting, music, bridge, and dominos. His zest for life and adventure was matched only by his love of spending time with family and friends.
Terry attended UC Berkeley and was a member of SAE and went on to earn his BS in Business and Industrial Management from San Jose State University. He had a successful career as a licensed general contractor, contributing his expertise to major projects with Lindquist McNely Co., TR Moreland Construction, and Eric F. Anderson Inc.
Terry was preceded in death by his parents, Frances and Ralph Moreland; his sister, Carole Presten; and his brother, Mark Niemela. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Carolyn. He is also survived by his sister, Sandi Smith, his children Eric (Julia) Moreland and Kristen (David) Stone, and his cherished grandchildren Kyle, Drew, and Connor Moreland, and Morgan and Jakob Stone.
A celebration of Terry's life will be held at Lafayette Orinda Presbyterian Church, with details to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to one of the organizations that was close to Terry’s heart.
