Dr. Synthia Elizabeth Green's Obituary
Obituary for Synthia Elizabeth Green
Synthia Elizabeth Green was born May 4, 1956 to Jesse A. and Susie M. Green. She left the earthly realm and returned to the source of all beings November 25, 2025.
Synthia was born in Louisville, KY and spent her childhood there. She had a rich and long education which began in the public schools of that city. Principal of these were Phyllis Wheatly Elementary school and later Barrett Junior High school. She played the piano, violin and at Barrett achieved second chair in the orchestra playing the cello. In 1972 Synthia entered Oakwood College Academy (high school) in Huntsville, AL because she could not obtain an education for college preparation in her hometown. She then entered Oakwood College as a chemistry major for her baccalaureate education where she was recognized for completing her pre-medicine studies in three years. Synthia then continued on to Loma Linda University School of Medicine and obtained her Doctor of Medicine degree in 1985. Shortly thereafter she began an internship at King-Drew Medical Center in Los Angeles but decided her real love was teaching.
Synthia arrived in Oakland, CA in 1989, began substitute teaching and immediately accepted her next learning assignment, earning a teaching credential from Mills College in 1991. By the time she received her credential, the principal at Lowell High School in San Francisco was eager to welcome her as a chemistry teacher. Dr. Green was a well-respected and beloved teacher with a reputation for being both a kind and rigorous instructor. Over the years, Lowell alums have kept in contact and proudly reported their accomplishments, academic and professional, expressing gratitude and appreciation for her high expectations and excellent instruction.
In the 1990’s and early 2000’s there was a vibrant and creative women’s community in the Bay area where Synthia found acceptance, affirmation and built community. She was active in a lesbian affinity group, a neighborhood association, loved to be in nature, attend live concerts and host gatherings of family and friends.
Synthia is survived by loving friend and partner of decades, Nell Myhand; four siblings, brothers Jesse Green Sr. (Connie), George Green (Elizabeth), sisters Ann Rennie (Albert), and Sandra Shirley; aunts Rosa Mathers and Lucille Mulligan; nieces and nephews Carmelita, Ryan, Leif, Alice, Jesse Green III, Britney, Kimberly, great niece Alexis and a great host of cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and nephew George F. Green IV.
