Susan Lois Bloom's Obituary
Beloved sister, sister-in-law, aunt, friend, and dear colleague Susan Lois Bloom, passed away on November 12, 2019 after a challenging illness.
Born 1947 in Chicago, Susan grew up in Rochester, New York, then attended the University of Pittsburgh graduating with a B.A. followed by receipt of her J.D. from State University of Buffalo law school.
Her formidable career involved public service including: law clerk to Honorable John T. Curtin, U.S. District Court; Staff Attorney with Monroe County Legal Assistance Corporation; Staff Attorney/Director of Litigation National Paralegal Institute; Attorney with Office of Hearings and Appeals SSA; and Settlement Conference Referee, Workers’ Compensation Appeals Board. Susan was appointed Administrative Law Judge at CIUAB in January 27, 1992. In addition to these professional accomplishments, Susan was a CASE representative consistently and constantly being an advocate for her peers, the voice of reason, respect, and fairness.
Susan was preceded in her passing by her beloved husband, Loren Warboys in 1999. He was the love of her life and they enjoyed many years together which included mutual professional accomplishments, traveling, and a full and complete happiness in their home. She was an avid shopper and collector, reader, and participant in many local and national worthy causes.
She leaves her family: brother, James (Caroline) Bloom, her 2 nieces Dr. Alison (Mark) Kohan, Hayley (Shaun) Simpson, her 3 grandnieces: Sidney Kohan, Charlotte and Juliette Simpson; and her grandnephew Theo Kohan; as well as her step nephews Adam Gibson (Ben Demis), and Bryce Gibson.
During her illness she was cared for by numerous close and devoted friends, and resided at the Excell Health Care Center in Oakland, where she was treated with an abundance of respect, attention, and the absolute highest possible level of care possible. The facility and the staff treated Susan like family.
We will always remember her for her smile and wonderful sense of humor, her incredible intellect and attention to detail, her love of all things purple, and her sidekick and pal – Cody her dog. It should be mentioned that she was a fan of most sports primarily basketball, football, baseball, tennis, golf, and hockey – and knew more detail and statistics than most sportscasters.
A Celebration of Susan’s Life will be held at the Chapel of Chimes in Piedmont on Saturday, Feb 8, 2020 from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
