Susan Ruth Beales' Obituary
Susan Ruth Beales May 9, 1941 ~~ Feb 10, 2012 Has departed our presence after engaging in an eight month heroic battle with pancreatic cancer. Susan, the daughter of the late Tom and Ruth Miller of Yuba City, is survived by her spouse of some 49 years, Alan K. Beales; her two sons and their wives, Alan and Michelle Beales of Oakland and Erin and Heather Beales of Alameda; her sister, Nancy Schouten of Butte City; her nieces, Tamara Sanguinetti of Napa and Janet Kaidantzis of Lafayette; her nephews, John Schouten of Salinas, Michael Schouten of Butte City, and John Beales of San Rafael; her four grandchildren, Nicole Beales of Oakland, Luke, Hunter, and Jake Beales all of Alameda; and eight grand-nieces and grand-nephews all residing in California. A native Californian born in Merced, Susan spent a brief moment in Ione and then moved on to Yuba City where she learned to pick fruit, ride her horse, Boy, and graduated from Yuba City High School thus the “moniker” of Yuba Sue which became a part of her e-mail and more. Continuing in her pursuit of knowledge she went on to the University of California at Davis where she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree enabling her to continue her studies at UC Berkeley where she received a California teaching credential. Not being satisfied with that, she went on to Hayward State and received a Master’s degree in early childhood education. Loving children as she did, Susan made a career of teaching mostly Kindergarten in the flat land schools of Oakland where she made many friends with students one of which turned out to be her chemo therapy nurse during her treatment period. The greatest joys in life came her way from her four grandchildren, her love of gardening, cooking, and reading. After retiring from her teaching career, she spent countless hours volunteering for the Oakland Museum Board’s White Elephant Sale, sorting and selling in the jewelry department. She will be missed by her many friends scattered from Oregon to Florida and from India to Mexico. A Celebration of Life memorial service this spring is pending arrangements. Yuba Sue has left the party!
