My Dearest Sister Sophia Vivian,
As I pen these words, tears blur the lines, and my heart aches. Your passing has left a void that cannot be filled, and the memories we shared flood my mind like a bittersweet melody.
I remember the time I’d sneak into your car, hiding just to go home with you to be part of your world, a world filled with love, and unforgettable moments. I remember that hilarious incident with the neighbor down the street threatening us with her dog, and you clapped back with “I’ve got a German Shepherd dog too”, your courage shone through as you calmly faced the threat, remains etched in my memory as a testament to your strength and unwavering support for your family.
I also remember lines from my daughter Dominique’s favorite movie Grease, bring a smile to my face every time I think of it, I can hear you saying “ oh Sandy, why don’t you come over to my house” that will be forever etched in my memory. That’s just a small glimpse into your funny side. Telling Delena she drives just as good going backwards as she does going forward. I will remember your saying, “sometime people just need a good lettin alone” whenever I reached my limit with someone.
Your homemade ice cream and poundcake were not just culinary delights; they were expressions of your love and care. The taste of those lingers on my tongue, a reminder of the warmth that surrounded us when you were near. The gumbo you made was a masterpiece. It was unmatched and irreplaceable. No pot of gumbo since has come close to capturing the essence of yours.
How can I forget the road trips from Oakland to Arkansas, 3 adults and 3 kids cramped in that six-seater car, symbolize the endurance and togetherness we shared as a family. Your resilience during those journeys spoke volumes about the depth of your love.
My cherub chandelier you gifted me now stands as a beacon of your enduring spirit. Every flicker of its light whispers your name, a comforting reminder that you may be gone, but you will never be forgotten and your light will forever shine in my heart.
Above all, I will forever hold in my heart the immeasurable love, kindness, tenderness, and care you bestowed upon our mother as she gracefully aged. The boundless love and nurturing you offered her until her final breath are cherished memories that will linger in my heart eternally.
My sister, you were extraordinary—kind, caring, loving, witty, and courageous. Your presence brought joy not only to my heart but to the hearts of many. Rest well, dear Sophia Vivian (Hotter), for you have earned the peace that eluded you in life. I love you with all my heart.
With love that transcends space and time,
Stephanie
