Sheila Anne Price Brown's Obituary
Sheila Anne Price Brown daughter of Theodore and Doris Price, was born on May 16,1946 in Rochester, New York departed this life on November 15, 2016. Mrs. Brown moved to the Bay Area with her husband of 50 years, Declan Brown, in 1972.
After moving to Los Angeles, San Rafael, Houston,Texas, the Browns settled in Oakland in 1975. Mrs. Brown graduated from Mills College in 1980 with a B.S. in Interdisciplinary Studies.
Mrs Brown was employed in various capacities starting as the first African American Bank Teller at Rochester Savings Bank, Rochester, New York; and finished her career as co-owner of the Kingsley Group, Inc., an international management consulting firm headquartered in San Francisco, California.
She was involved in many community organizing efforts to promote justice, equality, and fair play among all people starting with the March on Washington in 1964. Mrs. Brown was a devoted member of Lakeshore Avenue Baptist where she worked on various projects to improve the lives of other people.
Mrs. Brown was most importantly a devoted wife and sister, who enjoyed nothing more than spending time with her nieces, nephew, and grand nieces. Her home was was open to family and friends and was filled with love and laughter.
She is survived by her husband: Declan Brown of Oakland; Sister: Sondra Price of Hillsborough, California; Nieces: Katherine Washington of San Francisco, California (Joshua Bonnette, Katherine’s husband), Joanine Anderson of Rochester, New York; Nephews: David M. Anderson of Fairfax, Virginia; Kenwood M. Anderson of Sherman Oaks, California; Grand Nieces: Gabriella Ayana Bonnette; and Matilda Zuri Anderson; and a host of cousins.
Services were held at Lakeshore Avenue Baptist Church, In Oakland, California on November 20, 2016 where she was eulogized at the Thanksgiving Service; and also on December 3, 2016 with a service for family and friends.
