Sharon "Scruggs" Smith's Obituary
Sharon Dean (Scruggs) Smith of Oakland, CA, passed away on July 11, 2020 at seventy-one years old.
Sharon was born in Madera, CA in 1949. As a youth, she was baptized and a member of St. John Baptist Church in Vallejo, CA; then a member of Bible Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church in Oakland, CA, for the rest of her life .
Sharon graduated from Vallejo Senior High School, and completed courses at Solano Community College, Chabot Community College, as well as many specialized office management training courses.
Sharon was twice married, and divorced. Sharon was a persistent and consistent provider and mother to her only child, Sharay, from her first marriage.
Sharon had a long and fruitful work history in public & administrative service for the Franchise Tax Board; Sumitomo Bank (now California Bank & Trust); and the County of Alameda.
She was an active member of SEIU 1021, Local 616, up until retirement in 2013. Sharon then maintained membership with the Retirement Employees of Alameda County.
Sharon was very invested in the well-being of her family, and she had a passion for dancing, cowboy westerns, family gatherings, a good road trip, and handling her business.
She is survived by her daughter, Sharay Pinero and three grandchildren: Symone, Gregory & Jade; sisters, Gloria Jean and Wilda Carol; brothers, Dwayne Donnie, Olen Jr., and Wilson Arthur; four nieces and two nephews; Uncle Donnie (Maedru) Scruggs; high-kicking elder cousins Norma Faye and Cheryl Yvonne, and a host of cousins and friends.
Memorial services will be held on July 31, at Chapel of the Chimes, Oakland, CA. This is a limited capacity service, in compliance with the state of California open with care mandates.
Family & Friends fellowship will be held on the outlook lawn at United Lutheran Church, Oakland, CA.
Any visitors are expected to wear face coverings, in compliance with the state of California open with care mandates.
