Shajauana Latrice Perry's Obituary
Shajauana Latrice Perry was born to Lucinda Green and Samuel Perry on December 22, 1959, in Berkeley, California. Shajauana grew up on Dohr Street in Berkeley, where she was well known and deeply loved. She was raised by her mother, Lucinda Green—affectionately known as Cindy—and her stepfather, James Butler.
She was educated in the Berkeley Unified School District and graduated from Berkeley High School, Class of 1977. After high school, Shajauana worked as a caregiver and assisted with her mother’s daycare. She later worked as a waitress at Merritt Bakery. Shajauana also worked at Perry’s Food for the Soul in San Leandro, California, owned by her sister, Stephanie Perry, where countless fun moments and cherished memories were made.
Shajauana loved getting dressed up and going out in San Francisco and throughout the Bay Area. She enjoyed dancing and listening to music, with blues, R&B, gospel, and soul being her favorite genres. Among her favorite artists were Marvin Gaye and Mary J. Blige.
When you walked into Shajauana’s home, it was always beautiful and spotless. During the holidays, her house—and her table—were always full. Children especially loved coming over, as she was well known for keeping a fully stocked snack table at all times.
Shajauana was well respected and well known throughout most of her adult life in the Bay Area. She was a woman who loved hard and would help her family by any means necessary. She loved with her whole heart, and her greatest love was for her children, Lamar and Shaleta. Shajauana always carried herself as a queen, and it is only fitting that she is remembered with the dignity and royalty she embodied.
After a long and courageous battle with lung cancer, Shajauana peacefully went to her heavenly home. She fought hard and demonstrated remarkable strength and resilience through her journey.
Shajauana was preceded in death by her mother, Lucinda Green; her father, Samuel Perry; and her stepfather, James Butler.
She leaves to cherish her memory her son, Gary Lamar Mosley of Stockton, California; her daughter, Shaleta Amos of Oakley, California; four sisters, Stephanie Perry of Stockton, California; Allegra Aldridge (husband Doug) of Concord, California; Kashonta Butler of Antioch, California; and Jasmine Perry of Dallas, Texas. She also leaves behind her grandchildren Zhamar R. Mosley, Zahrai L. Mosley, Lamar R. Mosley, La’Rya A. Mosley, Ry’Ahna L. Mosley; one aunt, Pamela Perry Hedgman; four nephews—Shane Aldridge, Anthony Perry Haig, Noah Aldridge, and Josiah Campbell; and four nieces—Skylar Aldridge, Jackie Perry-Haig, Jordan Campbell, and Haley Campbell. She is also survived by her bonus mother, Evelene Perry, along with a host of cousins, close friends, and other beloved relatives.
“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.”
